Hi Libby,

We consider it a bad practice to hit straight onto a servlet, preferring to
use a server-side business delegate that wraps our business logic - that's
why we chose not to document the process in the book.

Did you try to get the sample code from Chapter 20 working?

Best,

Ali

Subject: RE: [flexcoders] Run MXML on PC, Calling to Java on Remote Server -
Help

I read your chapter but it didn't explain how to do what I am trying to do.
I think my favorite part was on page 5, where it says:
"... if youre implementing an
RIA interface on an existing J2EE infrastructure that has business logic
contained in your Servlet tier, consult the Flex documentation to see how
you can use RemoteObject to invoke methods exposed on Servlets in your app
server."
That note was particularly helpful <sarcasm> in light of the fact I can't
find any such info so far in the MM documentation.

Eventually I will figure out exactly where to look, I'm sure. So far I can
find tidbits, but no examples, of how to write mxml on one machine in
flexbuilder, then run it from flexbuilder to invoke java on a remote app
server, as if it were a client-server app.
