All,

Just in case you're not aware ... myself and some of the other team members here are serialising a number of blog entries that will delve into the detail of Cairngorm store; we've put up 3 entries so far, that cover the bottom 2-tiers of the 3-tier architecture, and in future blog entries will very much be delving into the details of how we used the design patterns in Cairngorm Store, the motivation for the design patterns, and some other general lessons learned in implementing the store.

In addition; Macromedia Press have kindly agreed to allow Alistair and I to distribute the chapter we wrote back in June 2003 for the ActionScript 2.0 Dictionary, titled "ActionScript 2.0 Design Patterns for RIA".  Although at that time we were focussed on using the design patterns in Cairngorm for Flash and Flash MX based RIA, the motivations for the design patterns remains the same, and the chapter goes into quite a bit of detail as to why we use the patterns we do, and how we chose to implement them in the Flash ecosystem (such as the EventBroadcaster strategy for implementing the FrontController, which was previously tied to HTTPRequest handling with Java Servlets).  I'm awaiting a proof PDF from Macromedia Press, and we'll make that available as a free download as well.

Hopefully the combination of the blog serialisation and the AS2.0 Dictionary chapters, will provide the background information at the detail that we didn't (intentionally) cover in the whitepapers.
