Hi, What language is your problem domain coded in?
If you are using Java then there are plenty of solutions available, one of which, JAAS, has been integrated into version 1.4 of the SDK. http://java.sun.com/products/jaas/ There's plenty of information in google if you search for "authenticating against active directory".
