Thank you Steven!

I actually purchased that book about a month ago - it's just that I've
been unable to dedicate much time to really understanding it.

It sounds like Chapter 20 in that book, is really important to
developing RIA's in regards to handling Data, etc. - as I hear it
mentioned all the time.

I'm grateful for all your help, in addition to the members of this
entire list - so let me say Thanks again :)

Subject: RE: [flexcoders] Sending Results to an unknown object

| What is the best way to encapsulate my Remoting Objects, and their
associated Methods, in | the Application Root, so that the RemoteObject
can be called from anywhere in the
| application, and also have those Results sent to the Calling
Component?

Mike -- we cover these ideas in great detail in the book "Developing
Rich Clients with Macromedia Flex", in Chapter 20; good news is that
this book is available as a free download at
http://flexbook.iterationtwo.com/

Look particularly at the interaction of the Service Locator (where we
encapsulate RemoteObject), Business Delegate (where we encapsulate calls
to
services) and Commands (the way we call the same services from different
places and handle the results uniquely).

Once you have a grasp of that, you might want to checkout the Cairngorm
framework, and the ModelLocator, which gives a neat way for your
commands to store results returned from the server, for use all over the
place in your RIA.

The good news for you is that the design problem you face is a recurring
one, and that's why there are well understood design patterns for
solving these problems.

Hope this helps,

Best,

Steven
