Try dataGrid.sortDirection
if (dataGrid.sortDirection == "DESC") {
// your stuff here
} else {
}

I need these information while adding a new row with some values to the dataprovider so that i can call sortItemsBy() function for that column in the datagrid. I don't want to implement this logic by keeping track of headerRelease event through a local variable.
