There isn't anything from preventing you from using socket servers to do all kinds of bridging badness. It's all about what you are trying to do. One thing to add... Is that bridge technologies to Flex by itself aren't going to buy you much bang for the buck and are going to be difficult to configure (due to sandbox issues). The most direct route - will likely involve AIR.
