Ok, figured it out. I guess if you are working with a Flex file instead of a Flash file things are different. Or maybe it was the lack of history folder. Either way it works and here are my steps.
I followed this example http://www.swffix.org/swfobject/swfobject_flex3/ -->SWFObject 2 dynamic publishing Then I followed: http://www.themorphicgroup.com/blog/2008/05/28/using-flex-3-deep-linking-browsermanager-with-swfobject/#comment-794 Then I realized I the guy before me didn't include the history folder in domain. He just took the flex file and embedded it on the page using his own template. So all is good now as far as reading the URL on initial page load as that is all I am using it for. I am not listening for any browserchangeEvents, but would probably work if need be. So if anyone else is having this issue follow these for success. Thanks again for you help!!!
