Jason, I am looking for a solution to similar issues. Our company is using flex for a multiple file upload - however we deal with extremely large files (up to 1gb) and the upload method loads the entire file into memory before starting the upload.
Since this is the case we are experiencing large delays in the preparation to upload (with the browser frozen, and the system almost unresponsive). For an end user, this is unacceptable and so we have scrapped the entire project (ARRRRGH!). I honestly hope Adobe does something to help out in the next version... really though... the progress bar is kind of chincy if you can't use it for LARGE files - when else would you need a progress bar? Has anyone come up with any workarounds for this "hang time" when uploading large files using flex? Thanks in advance, -Nathan
