Just a little clean up here... I figured out why the video was 
distorted.  When playing an FLV inside a player that has a width and 
height smaller than the FLV's default sizes, you must set the 
video.smoothing property to true.  If you are using a player component 
that does not expose the video object, you have to go into the 
component's source somehow or build your own player.  I chose the 
latter and had success.
