Hi, Tracy. Good point: I have a column in a datagrid that will be blank if the 
user hasn't yet uploaded an image for that record. If s/he uploads an image, I 
need to update that column to show the image. I've got this working within the 
same itemRenderer and just for the sake of making it look nicer, wanted to have 
the image in a separate column. An image column requires an itemRenderer. Any 
thoughts? Thanks.

This is almost never possible or useful.  The
question indicates that you do not fully grok the mechanics of item renderer
behavior.  In nearly all cases, you should operate through the dataProvider.
 
Take a step back and tell us what you are
trying to achieve.
