I want to comment on FLEXDMV-1882. I have fixed this locally, and have not tested the fix thoroughly, so use the fix with caution.
Basically the fix is to remove the unwanted itemRenderers from the instanceCache the ColumnSeries uses, whenever the itemRenderer changes.
