No luck - I also tried using the swf of the object with the mask in another mxml file.. the problem is that the white mask is not transparent.
It seems as though wherever the mask is created, it won't move from there. >From what I've been able to find, when a mask is applied it is not added to the display list, so you cannot access it like you would a normal object.
