For anyone else experiencing this problem, I think it's due to a bug: http://jobemakar.blogspot.com/2007/05/texteventlink-bug-in-actionscript-3.html
If the textfield isn't selectable, links won't work (onmouseover hand cursor is shown, the links just doesn't work).
