One way would be to set paddingTop/Bottom to 0. If your renderer is not based on container, you can draw outside of your bounds as well.

Unfortunately though, there's some whitespace at the top and the bottom of the coloured area. I can't figure out how to remove this and make the filled area encompass the entire cell.
