Have you done Adobe's Exchanging Data Tutorial [ http://learn.adobe.com/wiki/display/Flex/Part+II.+Exchanging+Data ]? This tutorial should provide the help you need. You retrieve XML and Plain Text data from ColdFusion, PHP, Java and ASP.NET servers.
