I suspect he suggested that you do that simply because at this point
no one (or no one on this list) has done a direct integration, and
would probably require you to write it yourself...
I saw from a google search that there were some older posts about flex
2 and LDAP (Again I think Tom was one of the posters), and at that
time it seems like it was not possible with native flex classes. And
if memory serves me correct, I don't remember any LDAP related
announcements when flex 3 came out.
Any examples I came across used a server-side language. (IE
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/communityengine/index.cfm?event=showdetails&productId=2&postId=7122)
.
I suspect your only options are to use a server side technology (Such
as PHP, .net or java), or write some custom flex classes yourself
using the LDAP spec and the socket class.
I could be wrong, but that is off the top of my head.
