One of the things I use Dictionary for is for storing weak references to objects. http://manishjethani.com/blog/2008/07/31/using-weak-references-in-actionscript-3/ You can see for instance the EffectManager class in the Flex 3 framework uses a Dictionary object to store references to effects.
