1. Did you try setting TextField's 'alpha' property? In Player 10, I think it works with both device and embedded fonts. In Player 9, I think it only works with embedded fonts.
2. I'm not clear on what kind of halo you want. Around a text border? Around every character? Around certain words? I would like to be able to add halo to the text. This text is not part of UI. It is used to annotate the drawing.
