Which AutoComplete component are you using? To address the problem,
you depend greatly on how the component is implemented, most likely
overriding one of the keypress events.
If you look at the Firefox address bar, an item in the drop down is not
selected when you hit enter, but is selected when you hit tab. However,
the Google search field selects nothing when you tab away. So, there is
UI precedent for both selecting something on tab and seleting nothing on
tab.
The Flextras AutoCompleteComboBox selects nothing on tab. (
