If I would ask my question differently it would be : 

Is it possible to change cellRenderers on the fly, 
switching from cellRendererA to cellRendererB ?
Quite tricky question ;))

The thing is that your AS cellRenderer code needs to get compiled 
intoyour application. Instead of assigning a String to the 
column'scellRenderer property make sure you're passing in the class itself, 
i.e.myDataGrid.getColumnAt(0).cellRenderer =
