I starting using robotlegs about a year ago and I really like it. It's by far my favorite framework (mvc, dependency injection) for as3.
I have used it for pure as3 and flex projects. As far as using it for small projects, it can be worthwhile because of the convenience methods that it provides. It's also pretty easy to add robotlegs to a project you have already started.
