You'll want to set the style of the button in Actionscript:
In MXML:
<mx:Button id="myButton" label="Change Color" click="changeColor()" />
In script:
public function changeColor():Void {
var colorArray:Array = [ "red", "red" ];
myButton.setStyle("fillColors", colorArray);
}
