Jesse's example uses the RemoteObject which works fine in Flex 1.5, but in Flex2 the RemoteObject has defaulted to AMF3 and does not allow the endpoint attribute, making you use Adapters (at least for the standalone). So to manually connect to a endpoint (gateway) that you want you have to do it with the AS class NetConnection.
