how do folks handle this objection? I've encountered this criticism
paired with the statement that OpenLaszlo apps will run on Flash5. I
don't need to be sold on the benefits of using Flex2 and AS3 over
OpenLaszlo (i've tinkered w/ both and i like Flex dev, the IDE rules)
but this requriement almost seems like a showstopper in terms of
usability for using Flex on a public app.

I can completely see how Flex2 is appropriate to use on an intranet or
extranet where you can make certain assumptions about the user's
environment (ie. ability to silently upgrade all employees flash
players using SMS once and know that it will work for everyone), but
is it really suited for publicly-available applications where you
can't make these assumptions? and if so, is it realistic to expect
that people will upgrade their flash players just to use your app?

perhaps i'm missing something critical or maybe this has already been
solved elegantly behind the scenes with some automatic upgrade
feature. unfortunately I installed Flash 8.5 on my only machine so I
don't know what you see when you hit a flex2 app w/ an older flash
player.

thanks
sean
