Martin,
What is the platform of the ATM?
There are several "projectors" that will give you access to the low-level
functionality. You can also communicate with "outside"world within the local
machine via _javascript_ - and that can utilize "trusted" activeXs or applets. The
main question is on integration though - is printing program to be written in
Flex/Flash/AS or is it external. If it becomes "external" then integration with
environment that provides that functionality is crucial.
Basically, you need to specify the
platform (OS, browser/accessibility info and language/tools you need for
integration ) to assure that people would be able to answer those questions.
>From that point it would make sense to contact either Adobe or smaller players
providing "trusted functions enabled" projectors to see if they would like to
make products for "verticals"

Subject: [flexcoders] Control devices from Flex
We're currently evaluating Flex for an ATM software platform. One of our requirements is that we need to control some of the devices of the machine (the machine mailbox, printer, etc). One possibility we've been investigating is to host an HTTP server that would control all the devices. The thing is, how can I call it from a Flex application? The application would be deployed on a central server. Most of the interactions would be with services on the central server, but we need to make calls to the local server to control the devices (print reports, open and close the mailbox, etc).
The other option is to embed the application in an html page with a java applet that would be responsible of interacting with the server or the devices.
Do you know how can we accomplish this?
TIA,
Martin Paoletta
