I looked at it and decided that web services would be better for a consumer internet application. If it's only intranet then sql xml should work fine.

 

Once you create your root for the templates etc.. Just use a http service call to specify the template url. I did find resources but not pertaining to Flex. Once you get the data into flex it's rather simple to manipulate.
