I had
the same problem with french special characters like é or
è...
This
was due to the string encoding which wasn't UTF-8 all way long, I was getting my
data from a JSP page (calling a java method which was returning XML in
UTF-8).
I
added a UTF-8 encoding directive in the JSP header and then it was
OK...
If
your original data are in UTF-8, then I think it may come from the
HTTP response which encapsulate your data
