Josh's post is worth a read, Steven Webster mentioned a couple of times how excited he is for FES.
There is some room to give and take on how to implement Cairngorm. One case is that you can encapsulate all the FES DS and DataGrid functionality in its own ViewHelper and use Commands to make general calls to the ViewHelper from a UI perspective. I haven't looked at the all the uses of FES but from one stand point if the DS is self contained and relates to one form/datagrid it might warrant using a ViewHelper approach.
