I assume you mean your object is an instance of a subclass of VBox, not
some child contained within a VBox.

Anyway, I asked one of our AS3 engineers about why hasOwnProperty()
isn't getting inherited and he said this is a known bug that he's about
to fix.

states that the hasOwnProperty() method is inherited from Object.  
Shouldn't my class then be able to call hasOwnProperty()?  I get compile

error "Call to a possibly undefined method..." currently.
