Well, Eclipse ain't a Java-based server but just a program written for 
the Java runtime. It's the same as writing a C# app
for the .NET runtime ;-)

In theory you wouldn't be needing a Java Server but most people are 
still Java oriented, it shouldn't be a problem to
enclose your data via .NET to your Flex application. For example you 
create some .NET webservices and use those
to share the information with the Flash interface. No biggey. You should 
only watch out for the webservice support of Flex it should
be delivered in the RPC format i.e. no use of complex types.
