yes, I would use events to trigger next screen(view),
say after login view finished all it's job, dispatch a "loginSuccess" event and let the underlying Application catch it then switch Main view, you could also considering using "View State" or viewstack to more efficiently manage all the views.
you can also take a look at how Cairngorm (a flex framework) handles these kinds of situations.
