Hi

You need to use as and create it if you are not using it in a Transition;

CODE
---------------------------------------

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" xmlns:pan="pan.*">

<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
    import mx.effects.Move;

    private function movePan()
    {
        var move:Move = new Move()
        move.target = testPan

        testPan.visible = true;
        move.xTo = 20;
        move.yTo = 23;
        move.play();
    }

]]>
</mx:Script>
    <mx:Canvas width="100%" id="mainDisplay" height="100%">
        <mx:Panel id="testPan" styleName="opaquePanel" visible="false" x="0" y="0" />
        <mx:Button x="10" y="23" click="movePan()" label="Button"/>

    </mx:Canvas>
</mx:Application>

I had to replace your panel with a Paenl. Works fine.

Peace, Mike

Well I tried what you said Tom to use the move effect, but I keep
getting this error.

Component declarations are not allowed here. (Note: visual children
must implement mx.core.IUIComponent)

Here is my code.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
xmlns:pan="pan.*"

<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[

private function movePan(){
testPan.visible = 'true';
movea.xTo = 20;
movea.yTo = 23;
movea.play();
}

]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:Canvas width="100%" id="mainDisplay" height="100%">
<pan:panelTest id="testPan" styleName="opaquePanel" visible="false"
x="0" y="0" />
<mx:Button x="10" y="23" click="movePan()" label="Button"/>

<mx:Move id="movea" target="{testPan}"/>

</mx:Canvas>
</mx:Application>
