1. right click on the folder that is your flex project.
2. select "properties" down at the bottom of the menu
3. in the panel on the left side, select "Flex Build Path"
4. in the "source path" tab, press on the button "add folder"
5. Navigate to the folder *containing the folder or folders that you want to include. For my structure I had a directory called "src" that contained folders like "com". So in my case I selected "src". This is necessary so that you can find fully qualified package paths.
