Setting myChart.verticalAxis.maximum in AS (in Flex 1.5) works just fine for me. But have you actually set the verticalAxis as LinearAxis or CategoryAxis in AS or MXML? Eg. myChart.verticalAxis = new mx.charts.LinearAxis(); or
