I read about FDS dozens of times per day on this list, but I can't quite work out exactly what it is. It seems clear that for real-time or highly dynamic data, FDS reigns supreme, but why?
What makes FDS better than dynamically generated XML, for example? CLEARLY I'm missing something about FDS, but what? It has always seemed a bit like glue to me, to fasten the presentation to the data. There are many ways to glue those things together, so what makes FDS so awesome?
