Common mistake, Rich - the alpha value ranges from 0 to 1, not 0 to 100. Change it to the proper range and you should be good to go!
I've been building on Peter's example code as well, adding things like gauge tick marks, labels, titles, an adjustable start angle/sweep angle, and other things. Once I have it functioning the way I like it, I'll be happy to share the code with the community.
