Hey Samuel, you´re absolutely right on the sleepless nights and our best friend coffee! And of course once you´re in you can never go back! Flash Platform will hook you forever.

And no, you shouldn´t know java. However both languages are pretty similar, so, knowing one will let you move to another without a long learning curve. I would recomend you to look for OOP books and design patterns and of course, AS3 and Flex books.. any questions I would be happy to help!
