Hi Tom, I managed to fix it (but forgot to reply here). I just added .item to the end, and it worked fine (I'm sure I'd tried that earlier, when I tried almost every combination of everything, ever!). I went back to my original code (where the xml is passed in as a string from javascript), and that also works the same way :-)
