Hmm.. my post didn't seem to send...

import mx.core.UIComponent;

public class nonUIClass
{

    private var callLaterObject:UIComponent;

    public function invalidate(func:Function):void
    {
        if (!callLaterObject)
        {
            callLaterObject = new UIComponent();
        }
        callLaterObject.callLater(func);
    }

    public function invalidateSomething():void
    {
        invalidate(updateSomething);
    }

    public function updateSomething():void
    {
    }

}
