My undersatnding is that it’s a bug in IE (marked in our bugbase as Fact of Life which means not something we can fix or workaround).  I know that IE will throw security errors in most situations.  Depending on how you were testing it is likely you have a FlashPlayerTrust file that IE is finding to allow things to work (and maybe it’s aggressive).  Most of your customers don’t have this, only developers with Flex Builder get it automatically.

If you have some more steps that reproduce in a random local directory (one where you don’t have any FB projects or source, maybe something off the desktop) we can verify.

Hi Matt. A couple of questions:

1) What's the correct behavior supposed to be? Is Firefox or IE acting
correctly?

2) If Firefox is acting correctly, isn't that a pretty large security
hole in IE because I don't even need to put the -use-network=false
compiler flag in for it to execute my code? It just seems like this is
a bit more than a "known issue" and it should be fixed up and an
updated player released ASAP, no? I certainly don't want to yell
"FIRE" in a crowded room, but the Flash Player executing code outside
of the proper security sandbox is a pretty big deal, isn't it?

(OK, so it was more than a couple of questions.)

Regards,
Dave.
