[flexcoders] Why does the commented line NOT work??

[boy_trike]

                        model.currentPartPricing.partno = 
dgPrice.selectedItem.partno;
                        model.currentPartPricing.price = 
dgPrice.selectedItem.price;
                        model.currentPartPricing.quantity = 
dgPrice.selectedItem.quantity;
                        model.currentPartPricing.perRoll = 
dgPrice.selectedItem.perRoll;

//                      model.currentPartPricing = dgPrice.selectedItem as 
PartPricing;


Instead of the 1st 4 lines, I wanted to just assign the object.  However, when 
I do that, the 
model.currentPartPricing becomes NULL

What am I doing wrong?
