I agree - this was a very good clarification of how the DataGrid works -
 
The Grid is simply a "representation of the Data" - dressing it up with the styles that we give it - but we can't treat the Grid as a Living Entity as it pertains to the Data.
 
It's scary how much you forget when you don't write code for a long time - I've been on the FlashCoders list for like 7 years now, and the DataGrid has always worked in this fashion.
