Nevermind,

I figured it out, but it was tricky.  Because the VSlider is vertical, the x and y values of the SliderThumb are opposite.  If interested, here's the tag.

 <mx:VSlider id="mySlider" change="myCanvas.move(0, -mySlider.getThumbAt(0).x+this.height-myCanvas.height-1)"/>
