You can create commands (and delegates and services) which dispatch success and failure events. This gives you a very flexible mechanism to chain commands (or even execute them in parallel) or operations in your delegates/services and decouples your commands from the mx.rpc.* stuff. I did that in my framework and it works fine for web (remoting) and desktop (wrapped/with filesystem access) applications.
