No I am the naive one.  I'm new to Flex and pretty much programming in 
general.  I've never used try/catch in Flex before.  It works!  Thanks 
so much.

I'm surprised Adobe doesn't handle this on their sound effect demo page.

Then again the computer I have with no sound hardware has the debug 
Flash Player on it so perhaps the regular flash player wouldn't even 
pop up an error message.
