Extend the Class otherwise you can't solve in work arround.
rowHeight you could find a way limiting the size of font into the divided /2

Ok, that is what I have been using, but it seems to do a poor job of
trimming the space around the list items. I'm finding the list items
cropped from the bottom, instead a vertically centered in the rowHeight. Is
there anything one can easily do to improve this?

Subject: Re: [flexcoders] Remove white space around list items
Ian
What exactly you have in mind? to adopt a behavior in this list.
Here's a little approach
<mx:List rowHeight="10">
<mx:Array>
<mx:String>Item 1</mx:String>
<mx:String>Item 2</mx:String>
<mx:String>Item 3</mx:String>
<mx:String>Item 4</mx:String>
<mx:String>Item 5</mx:String>
</mx:Array>
</mx:List>
Using the rowHeight can solve your problem.
