Well I guess that would do the trick. Tho I was hoping that it would be possible to do this via the skinning API. The documentation kinda implies that it's been taken care of. And this will cause me a number of other issues due to how I've implemented the dynamic form building drag and drop process. But a work around is better than code that doesn't work.
