You can talk to older SWFs via localconnection. There are also
third-party solutions as well.

Subject: [flexcoders] Passing a value to a SWF movie to show someones
progress

Hi,

I've got a application which has a lot of single bar charts which
should show someone progress through a piece of eLearning. When the
page opens I want to have these bar charts load.
To get the bar chart to show a persons progress I'd like to create a
Flash movie (a small one of a bar chart, with 100 frames) and then
pass a value to it, so if a person has completed 80% of the eLearning
I'd like to pass in a value of 80 and then the flash movie would run
to frame 80.
Now this would be great if we had Flash 9, but we have Flash 8, so can
I load a swf in the flex application screen and pass a value to it?

Or is there an exam of a single bar chart which I can use to show
someone progress.

Thanks

Stephen
