Dominic: As a side node, there is no reason you can't use both Flex and HTML. Write your application in Flex with all of the bells and whistles, but then display the HTML markup in an iFrame inside the Flex app.

FYI, Flex does provide some basic HTML markup in their controls, but for what you are doing I would either look for a custom component (of which I know there are some out there) or write something custom.
