Is there a particular area you're looking at? For example some numbers may be pre-calcuations of certain constants that are appropriate for trigonometric equations, others that are in the skins may just be based on experimentation. I think if you look a the charts code there's going to be a lot of both, standard trig along with numbers that we think make the results look good by default. I'd hope the code itself might have more comments when you encounter a number to explain why it was chosen.
